SENASA and the New Regulations for Agroexports in Peru

The National Agricultural Health Service (SENASA) is the entity in charge of regulating and supervising the sanitary quality of agricultural products in Peru. In recent months, new regulations have emerged that directly affect agro-exporters.

1. New requirements for fruit and vegetable exports

  • Greater control in the use of pesticides, with stricter maximum residue limits.
  • Implementation of mandatory certifications for certain products, guaranteeing quality standards for markets such as the U.S. and Europe.

2. Modernization of the traceability system

The requirement is now for a mandatory digital registration of each stage of agricultural production, from planting to export. This allows greater control and facilitates the detection of problems in the supply chain.

3. Changes in fumigation and phytosanitary control protocols.

The new protocols seek to improve pest eradication efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of phytosanitary treatments.

4. Stricter requirements for organic certification

Audits to obtain the “organic product” seal have been strengthened, requiring greater transparency and compliance with environmental standards.

How can agribusinesses prepare?

  • Train personnel in updated regulations to avoid penalties or rejections at international customs.
  • Digitize production and traceability records to comply with the new SENASA requirements.
  • Monitor the use of agrochemicals and comply with permitted residue limits. in demanding markets such as the European Union.

📢 Keeping abreast of regulations is key to ensuring that Peruvian products continue to compete in international markets without inconvenience.
